She works across industries, with a focus on health care, including medical technology, long-term care, hospital systems and provider groups. Her expertise in elevating and enhancing brands has helped position organizations to compete effectively in areas including sustainability and public health.

Cocco founded and built the first Public Affairs function for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, developing a 360-degree communications approach to support the Blue System’s advocacy and leadership agenda. She also had a key role in crisis communications, including a high-profile data breach impacting millions and national anti-trust litigation that threatened the foundation of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield System.

Prior to joining The Blues, Cocco directed national communications at the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, where she co-created the “Knock Tobacco Out of the Park” campaign to address the growing use of smokeless tobacco by adolescents, and force Major League Baseball to ban the on-camera use of chewing tobacco by players. The campaign prompted the MLB and the Major League Baseball Players’ Association to place the first limits on tobacco use in the 135-year history of the game.

A decorated journalist whose work has been honored by the White House Correspondents’ Association, National Press Club and other organizations, Cocco has covered Congress, the White House, presidential campaigns and a broad range of domestic and foreign policy topics, from the economy and taxes to gun violence and terrorist attacks. Cocco’s experience as a nationally syndicated columnist for the Washington Post Writers’ Group and as a veteran national correspondent informs her insight into how developing media narratives impact companies and organizations.

She is a member of APCO Worldwide’s International Advisory Council, a group of more than 100 recognized global leaders, including former elected officials; leaders of business and industry; academics at leading universities; nonprofit pioneers and diplomats. She also serves on the advisory council to the National Press Foundation.
